2. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Under PECR, we must obtain your consent before setting any cookie that is not "strictly necessary" for the site to function. We categorise the cookies used on FutureWatt as follows.

2.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the website to operate correctly and cannot be switched off. They do not require consent under PECR. On FutureWatt this includes a local storage entry, futurewatt_cookie_consent, which simply records the choice you make in the cookie banner so that we do not ask you again, and a futurewatt-theme entry that remembers your light/dark display preference.

2.2 Analytics Cookies

With your consent, we use analytics cookies to understand how visitors use FutureWatt so that we can improve our content and site performance. These are described in full in Section 3 below and are only activated after you select "Accept All" in our cookie banner.

2.3 Advertising and Affiliate Tracking Cookies

With your consent, third-party affiliate and advertising partners referenced in Section 4 may set cookies or use similar tracking technologies (such as URL parameters) to attribute a sale or sign-up to FutureWatt. These are also only activated after you select "Accept All".

3. Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, to collect information about how visitors use this website, such as pages viewed, time on site, referral source and general device/browser information. This helps us understand our audience and improve FutureWatt's content and performance.

GA4 is only loaded, and analytics cookies are only set, once you have given your explicit consent via our cookie banner (see Section 5). If you select "Reject All", or take no action, GA4 remains completely blocked and no analytics data is collected. We implement Google's Consent Mode v2 so that, by default, all Google measurement and advertising storage is set to "denied" until you actively opt in.

Data collected by GA4 may be processed by Google on servers located outside the UK, including in the United States. Where this occurs, Google relies on appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure your data continues to receive an equivalent level of protection. 4. Commercial Affiliate Relationships

FutureWatt participates in affiliate marketing programmes. This means that if you click certain links on this site and go on to sign up for or purchase a product or service, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. This does not influence the editorial independence of our content, but we are required by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to disclose these relationships clearly.

4.1 Octopus Energy Referral Programme

FutureWatt is a participant in the Octopus Energy UK referral scheme (octopus.energy). Links and banners on this site that direct you to Octopus Energy contain a referral code. If you switch energy supplier via one of these links, both you and FutureWatt may receive a referral credit, and Octopus Energy may use a cookie or URL parameter to attribute the referral to us.

4.2 Amazon Associates

FutureWatt is a participant in the Amazon Associates and Amazon EU Associates affiliate advertising programmes, designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon properties. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases made via links on this site. Amazon may set its own cookies when you follow one of these links, in accordance with Amazon's own privacy notice.

4.3 Tesla Referral Programme

FutureWatt participates in the Tesla customer referral programme. Certain articles and sidebar links direct you to Tesla's ordering site via a personal referral link. If you place a vehicle order through one of these links, you may receive Tesla's advertised order incentives (such as a discount, cash credit or free Supercharging credit) and FutureWatt may receive a referral reward from Tesla. Tesla, not FutureWatt, determines what incentives are available and may use its own cookies or tracking parameters to attribute the order to our referral link.

You are always in control of your cookie preferences. There are two ways to manage your choice:

  • Use the cookie preferences control on this website. Click the button below to instantly re-open the cookie banner and change your choice. This clears the stored futurewatt_cookie_consent value and returns the analytics and advertising storage state to "denied" until you make a new choice.
  • Clear your browser's local storage and cookies directly. 7. Data Retention

We retain analytics data for no longer than is necessary for the purposes described in this policy, in line with Google Analytics' standard data retention controls. Cookie consent preferences stored in your browser persist until you clear your browser data or use the "Manage Cookie Preferences" control above.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy & Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational or regulatory reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page.
